The Challenge
To support the launch of HydroHome—an intuitive home energy management app for BC residents—BC Hydro partnered with Saint Bernadine Mission Communications Inc. (St B) to create a 90-second explainer video. The goal was to raise awareness of the app and drive downloads by clearly communicating its key features and everyday benefits.
HydroHome empowers residential customers to track electricity usage, receive personalized insights, monitor live consumption, and get outage updates—especially when paired with a smart hub. All features are accessible through a smartphone or tablet, helping users make informed, sustainable energy decisions. The HydroHome app gave residential customers the tools to better understand their energy usage and patterns and make smarter energy use choices.
The primary challenge was to communicate the app’s functionality in a way that felt both simple and engaging. Many customers are unfamiliar with energy management tools, so the content needed to feel accessible while demonstrating the practical value to residential customers. Additionally, the video needed to work effectively as a standalone asset hosted exclusively on BC Hydro’s website.

The Solution
St Bernadine developed a clear, engaging video that guided viewers through the in-app experience. Using a blend of clean animation and stylized still imagery, the video showcased key app features such as usage monitoring, setting alerts, and accessing energy-saving tips. Simulated screen interactions and motion graphics were used to make the app experience feel intuitive and user-friendly.
Key benefits were highlighted through short, memorable messaging and supported by a strong closing call to action:
“Download HydroHome today. See and save your energy.”


The Results
The video quickly became a key educational tool and was instrumental in driving customer engagement.
