Hymn of St. Bernadine - Play
MISSION MUSINGS: A peek through the pearly gates of the Mission

When Clients Collide

One of the fantastic things about St. Bernadine is that we have a very diverse client base and every day we get to help many different partners that are in a variety of industries. And, every once in a while, an opportunity comes along that allows us to moonlight as matchmakers and bring two of our clients together. Which is exactly what happened recently with the UBC Grand Prix.

A few months ago our client/favourite local watering hole and home of the best fish tacos in town, Mahony & Sons Public House, contacted us about getting involved in the branding of a great new bike race happening at UBC. Mahony & Sons had become involved in the race as the presenting sponsor and wanted us to tackle the branding. Always eager to help out a client and take on interesting branding challenges we jumped on board. Things were starting to come together for the race, but one thing was still missing – a title sponsor. And that is when clients started to collide (in a good way).

Having just launched Original 16 Canadian Pale Ale in Western Canada for our client Great Western Brewing, the UBC Grand Prix seemed like fantastic sponsorship opportunity for them. A few introductions and phone calls later and Original 16 was now the proud title sponsor of the inaugural UBC Grand Prix.

With two of our clients on board as the title and presenting sponsor, the “Original 16 UBC Grand Prix presented by Mahony & Sons Public House” was off to the races.  Beginning with the logo and extending through countless collateral pieces, the identity captured the speed and excitement of the race. We designed our first ever bike jersey and race arch along with posters, brochures, lanyards and even executed some street graffiti at 5am without being arrested!

Everyone involved, including Mahony and Sons Public House, Original 16 and the UBC Grand Prix team gave the final result two thumbs up. And for us, working on a project that helped not only one but two of our clients was a big win in our books. Not to mention, getting to watch the race from the Original 16 beer tent then shutting down the Mahony & Sons street party wasn’t bad either.

St. Bernadine did such an amazing job for this event and surpassed any of our expectations for what could be done to make for some awesome visuals! Business is at it’s best when a referral can be given to create value for both parties and this was no exception. Original 16 and Mahony and Sons stepped up their game and were great event partnerships.
